Your child probably falls into one of the following groups: he’s ecstatic about going back to school or he’d be fine if he never went back.
Going into the next grade can be stressful for kids and parents alike, but with a little preparation, your child can go in knowing what to expect. Here are 3 ways to prepare your child for the next grade:
1. Attend orientation
Look for any orientation opportunities and attend, if possible. You and your child will both meet teachers and other students, easing your child into that first day of school.
2. Get into the routine
Over the summer, we all get a bit lax. You’ll want to start your child’s school schedule a few weeks ahead. This means a set bedtime and a wake up call. He or she might not be enthusiastic at first, but this preparation will make going into the next grade easier.
3. Go school shopping together
When it’s time to shop for school supplies, have your child come along. He or she can help choose school supplies, creating excitement about the next grade.
A certain amount of anxiety and excitement is completely normal. Going into the next grade is a paramount milestone in your child’s life. Take the tips above into account as you get ready for the next school year!
